Health and Safety Regulations For Our Guests

Good day, friends! We’re delighted to invite you all to experience our interactive, multi-sensory museum again. Our parent company, Historic Tours of America, started operations 40 years ago with a motto – Safety First,…Courtesy a Close Second. Now more than ever these words ring true. To continue providing the highest quality tour that is fun and safe for both our guests and staff, we’re adhering to the guidelines provided to us by the CDC and State of Massachusetts. Here are the details on our enhanced safety precautions:

Mask Policy

The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum will require face coverings for ALL museum guests ages 2 years and older for the duration of their visit. This is in compliance to the August 27th Boston mandate that ALL people wear face coverings in public settings: businesses, clubs, places of assembly or other places that are open to members of the public, including but not limited to retail establishments, restaurants, bars, performance venues, social clubs, event spaces, and municipal buildings.

Guests who have medical issues which may prohibit them from wearing a mask should call the museum prior to purchasing tickets. The museum will work with these guests to provide a reasonable accommodation.

Safety Guidelines Gift Shop – Now Open (Daily from 9:30am – 5pm)

    • Deep cleaning and disinfecting of all areas will occur in the morning and at night. Additionally, our staff has been trained on all new safety regulations and will be regularly disinfecting all high-touch point areas throughout the day.
    • An advanced electrostatic disinfectant sprayer will be frequently used throughout all the rooms.
    • Plexiglass barriers will be installed at all point of sale areas to allow for proper social distancing.
    • Hand sanitizing solutions will be placed at all point of sale areas for employees and guests to frequently disinfect throughout the day.
    • Social distancing markers will be placed on the floor to direct foot-traffic and help all guests and staff remain 6 feet apart.
    • All sales registers will be sanitized after each transaction. Additionally, all registers will move towards contactless purchases by:
      • Moving receipt printers to countertops, allowing the customer to grab their own receipts
      • Placing Credit-Card swipers on the countertops, allowing customers to self swipe
      • Waiving the need to sign Credit-Card slips

Safety Guidelines Museum Experience –  Now Open (Thursdays – Mondays, 10am – 5pm)

  • Deep cleaning and disinfecting of all areas will occur in the morning and at night. Additionally, our staff has been trained on all new safety regulations and will be regularly disinfecting all high-touch point areas throughout the day.  
  • An advanced electrostatic disinfectant sprayer will be frequently used throughout all the rooms. 
  • Hand soap and paper towel dispensers upgraded to hands-free / contact-less models, reducing touch points in bathrooms. 
  • Encouraging and requiring all CAST and guests to practice social distancing while on-site and/or on tour. This includes “on stage” and behind the scenes.
  • Additional signage will be added across the site highlighting the use of face coverings by CAST and guests, social distancing, and use of hand sanitizer.
  • Social distancing indicators, arrows, and signage will be installed throughout the entirety of the museum experience and the site for CAST and guests to follow.
  • Tour sizes will be reduced in accordance with the state recommendations. 
  • The handing out of all character cards and feathers is suspended indefinitely.
  • Additional hand sanitizer stations will be installed at select points on the tour experience.
  • Anticipated minor procedural changes to the tour experience expected in all phases to accommodate social distancing and potential high touch areas.

Safety Guidelines Abigail’s Tea Room – Now Open (Daily from 9:30am – 5pm)

    • Deep cleaning and disinfecting of all areas will occur in the morning and at night. Additionally, our staff has been trained on all new safety regulations and will be regularly disinfecting all high-touch point areas throughout the day.  
    • An advanced electrostatic disinfectant sprayer will be frequently used throughout all the rooms. 
    • Hand soap and paper towel dispensers upgraded to hands-free / contact-less models, reducing touch points in bathrooms. 
    • All areas of the kitchen will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected frequently, throughout the day. 
    • Social distancing markers will be placed on the floor to direct foot-traffic and help all guests and staff remain 6 feet apart. This will also help navigate the dedicated entrance and exit of the servery and tea-room. 
    • Hand sanitizer will be available at the registers, by the tea stand, and around the site for CAST members and guests. 
    • All food will only be prepared in the to-go format. 
    • All tables and chairs will be disinfected between tours and at the end of each guest’s use. 
    • Frequent employee handwashing is required with soap and water for at least 20 seconds per CDC guidelines.
    • All sandwiches and salads will be made in the morning, prepackaged by someone wearing a facemask and gloves to limit the exposure, and be placed in to-go containers. 
    • No sandwiches will be made to order.
    • All sales registers will be sanitized after each transaction. Additionally, all registers will move towards contactless purchases by:
      • Moving receipt printers to countertops, allowing the customer to grab their own receipts
      • Placing Credit-Card swipers on the countertops, allowing customers to self swipe
      • Waiving the need to sign Credit-Card slips
