Gilbert Colesworthy was a ship’s caulker in Boston, Massachusetts, when he participated in the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773

He worked with his brother Jonathan, a shipbuilder, in Boston before joining his family in Nantucket, Massachusetts.  

According to the Waldo Genealogy, during the Revolutionary War, Gilbert was a Private in Captain Jonathan Davis’s company, under Col. Asa Whitcomb’s regiment. He enlisted on May 6, 1775, and served for a period of 3 months and 3 days. He also earned wages in August and September 1775 and was camped at Prospect Hill. He enlisted again on October 1, 1776, as a private in Captain Thomas Wellington’s company, Col. Asa Whitcomb’s regiment, and was in camp at Ticonderoga, New York, on November 27, 1776.

Gilbert Colesworthy likely died in Nantucket, Massachusetts, between 1784 and 1788.
