(January 14, 1754 – July 31, 1817)

A resident of neighbouring Roxbury, Massachusetts, Thomas Williams worked as a tanner in 1773.

Information on Williams’ participation in the “destruction of the tea” comes from a 1893 newspaper article from the Hutchinson News in Hutchinson, Kansas. According to the publication, Thomas Williams was one of several Boston Tea Party participants celebrated at a Sons of the Revolution dinner at Delmonico’s in New York City.

On December 16, 1773, Williams met with his future brother-in-law, Thomas Dana Jr., at his father, John Williams’s, home, and then proceeded to Griffin’s Wharf to destroy the tea. After the Boston Tea Party, Williams answered the Lexington Alarm on April 19, 1775, after the “shot heard ‘round the world” was fired. He served with Captain Moses Whiting’s Company of Minutemen for 28 days. After the Revolutionary War, Williams settled in what is now New Hartford, New York, in 1812.

Thomas Williams died in Utica, New York, on July 31, 1817, and is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica, NY.
