(August 28, 1743 – August 21, 1807)

One of the only mentions of John Holyoke’s participation in the Boston Tea Party was in an 1882 history of Penobscot County “although no such disclosure ever came from him.” The exact date of Holyoke’s removal to Brewer, Maine, is not known, but the local history says his first two sons were born in Boston, Massachusetts before the family moved north. Upon moving to Maine, Holyoke was elected as town treasurer in April of 1788. Due to there being only one mention of Holyoke’s involvement in the Boston Tea Party and that he does not appear on any other participant lists, he has been categorized as an “Eyewitness to History.”

John Holyoke died in Orrington, Maine on August 21, 1807. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Brewer, Maine.
