From the town of Waltham, Massachusetts, John Whitehead was a yeoman before the Revolutionary War.
There is a mystery surrounding John Whitehead outside his military service. When the Revolutionary War began with the first shots fired in Lexington on April 19, 1775, Whitehead marched for four days in Captain Israel Whittemore’s artillery company. He continued his service later in the war, serving as an artificer in Captain Phineas Parker’s company from January 1, 1777, to his resignation on March 27, 1778.
John Whitehead died on July 5, 1783, in Weston, Massachusetts.
